InterServer Announces Launch Of New Dedicated Server Line
Newark, New Jersey - July 25, 2008 - Web solutions provider, InterServer, Inc., has released a new line of Litespeed-based dedicated servers, powered by a new web server platform, designed to offer significant performance improvements over the Apache industry standard solution.
According to the company, high traffic Web sites will see the greatest benefit from the introduction of Litespeed, as the platform handles much greater traffic while reducing overall server load. The reduction in resource consumption allows intensive applications and services to be run alongside the Litespeed on the same server.
John Quaglieri, Chief Technical Officer at InterServer remarked, ”The Litespeed Web server offers an array of key features and enhancements that have never been available with Apache, the most commonly used web server. We have seen a real value in Litespeed and have seen excellent results from clients who have already adopted the solution independently. We are rolling out Litespeed dedicated servers today in an effort to provide existing and prospective clients with a robust alternative to Apache.”
Server administrators will also enjoy Litespeed’s simple and intuitive installation process. Once installed, Litespeed immediately boosts performance - including the ability to handle more simultaneous connections and a 50% increase in PHP performance. Litespeed also comes built with protection against Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, a common attack used to virtually paralyze servers. Litespeed is compatible with cPanel and DirectAdmin, and uses Apache-compatible htaccess, mod_rewrite, and httpd.conf
Litespeed dedicated servers with cPanel start at $160/monthly, which includes an Intel Core2Duo 2.66Ghz processor, 2GB DDR2 Memory, a 250GB SATA hard drive, and 2000GB of monthly data transfer.
InterServer, Inc. is a privately held web solutions provider operating since April 1999. Located in Secaucus, N.J., the company’s datacenter is less than 12 miles from New York City and Newark, New Jersey. InterServer’s network is powered by Cisco 6500 SUP720 routers connected to the Internet by paths to New York City and London.

Securing your Linux Firewall
As with any server, you want it to be as secure as possible. Most people throw firewalls together to take care of this issue, as well as employing Intrusion Detection Systems to thwart an attacker’s wishes to gain access to your machine, or cause it to become unresponsive. Today I will be demonstrating some simple SysCtl variables that you can employ on your server, which will turn on some simple protections in your linux kernel, helping thwart some forms of malicious attacks your server may encounter.
First, you will need to open your sysctl.conf file, generally located in /etc/sysctl.conf
Next, you will add the following to the bottom of your sysctl.conf file, to enable the built-in protection that the linux kernel has to offer.
net/ipv4/conf/all/rp_filter = 1
net/ipv4/conf/all/log_martians = 1
net/ipv4/conf/all/send_redirects = 0
net/ipv4/conf/all/accept_source_route = 0
net/ipv4/conf/all/accept_redirects = 0
net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies = 1
net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts = 1
Now, if your linux server is protecting a NAT, you will need to also add the following line to the sysctl.conf, if not already present, to allow ip forwarding to occur.
net/ipv4/ip_forward = 1
Next, you will need to instruct sysctl to reload the sysctl.conf file, as to update the /proc variables, so you can avoid the need for a reboot.
sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf
And there you have it. The built in protection within your linux kernel is active. Remember though, this is only supplemental to using a firewall, and not a replacement. There is no replacement for a properly secured firewall.

Then 2007 was the rollout year, where UK2’s marketing activities kicked in along with exciting changes to the portfolio and considerable investment into the organisation. Finally 2008 is the consolidation year, where UK2 as planned, is maturing into a successful, dominant hosting company growing organically and through acquisitions, and plans and strategies for future success are being conceived.
